APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES

This program is registered with the Oregon State Apprenticeship Training Council and is recognized by the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

 

Applications will be accepted for the following trade:

PLUMBER – Non Union

Minimum Qualifications:

1.     Eighteen (18) years of age.

2.     High school graduate or General Education Development Certificate of Equivalency.

3.     One year of high school Algebra or Integrated Math 2 with an average yearly grade of “C” or better. A college Algebra course that meets or exceeds high school Algebra, with a grade of “C” or better may be substituted for high school Algebra. A college math placement test indicating placement in Math 60 or higher may also be substituted for high school Algebra.

Note: Applicants must submit non-returnable proof of age AND high school transcripts or GED certificate. Applications and documentation (items 1-3 above) must be received by the closing date, according to the following schedule.

General Duties of a Plumber: Assemble, install, alter and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. May install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems.

 

 

RANKING SYSTEM POINTS:

Applicants who do not qualify for direct entry will be placed in the RANKED POOL, in descending order, based upon the number of points scored.  Applicants can earn points for education related to the occupation, and also for work experience.

·       To receive points for classes Applicants must provide course certificates or school transcripts.

·       To receive points for work history Applicants must provide documentation of work hours: W-2, letter from employers on company letterhead stating the type of work performed and number of hours worked per year, pay stubs, DD-214, or work history print-out from the State of Employment Division.

 

All documentation must be received by the closing date on the opening announcement.

Minimum Requirement (as of Oct. 17, 2014)

As of October 17, 2014 we require one year of algebra as a minimum requirement for apprenticeship application.

Here is the new policy (online policies and standards will be updated soon)

Must have one year of high school algebra or integrated math 2 with an average yearly grade of “C” or better.  A college algebra course that meets or exceeds high school algebra, with a grade of “C” or better may be substituted for high school algebra.  A college math placement test which indicated placement in class Math 60 or higher may also be substituted for high school algebra.

All Minimum Requirements for this program are:

1) Must be at least 18 years of age

2) Must provide documentation proving that you are a high school graduate or received a GED

3) Must have one year of algebra as detailed above.

Standards Update

Updated Standards – revised 9/17/2014.   Added Minimum Requirement:

Updated Standards – revised 4/18/2013.   The journeymen to apprentice Ratio requirements have changed:

 The ratio of apprentices to journey-level worker shall not be more than one (1) apprentice to the first one (1) licensed plumber journey-level worker in full employment for the first two (2) apprentices on the jobsite. The fab shop will be defined as a separate jobsite. Additional apprentices are authorized at a ratio of one (1) apprentice for each additional three (3) licensed plumber journey-level worker(s). (See ORS 660.126 (f))

Journeyman Exam Referrals

Have you been referred to take the exam and haven’t heard anything for two (2) months?  Contact Oregon Building Codes Division to verify the status of your paperwork.  If they have no record of your referral, contact your Area II Administrator immediately.  Typically, it can take up to three months from the Committee Date of Referral to your exam date.
